We’re back for another week of great events, culture, and food in the 315. Can you believe it? We might hit 70 degrees this week. Finally, climbing out of the cold. If you’re heading to Snofest, that might not be the best news for you, though.
Of course, with St. Patrick’s Day coming up, we all know there’s a chance we’ll trudge through the snow and slush, freezing our fingers and toes off, but hey, that’s upstate, right? Check out the newsletter, give it a share, tell your friends, and like us on social media to help spread the word and get more great events in front of everyone.

2026 Passing of the Shillelagh: Celebrate Utica’s Next Grand Marshal
In March, everyone is Irish, even if it’s just wearing green. Utica’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration kicks off on Friday, March 7, with the 2026 Parade Grand Marshal Reception, famously known as the “Passing of the Shillelagh,” to this year’s Grand Marshall Bob Sullivan. The celebration is held at the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley on Columbia St. in Utica at 5:30 PM. Don’t practice your Irish goodbye just yet. Stick around and enjoy food and drink with music from local bands like Craobh Dugan-O'Looney. Entry is $20.

📰 The 315 Community Chronicles
Oneida County’s new 2025–2030 Health Improvement Plan identifies poverty, mental health, and prenatal care as the region's top medical priorities. This data-driven roadmap was created alongside MVHS and Rome Health to target resources toward the community's most vulnerable populations. Residents will see a sustained focus on increasing access to outpatient mental health services and first-trimester prenatal care over the next four years.
Hamilton Central School District has entered the final interview phase for a new Superintendent, with an official appointment expected by April. Assisted by Madison-Oneida BOCES, the Board is seeking a leader to implement the district's strategic plan beginning July 1. This transition aims to provide stable leadership following recent capital project votes.
Senator Joseph Griffo is calling on the Governor to return a $2 billion NYSERDA surplus to taxpayers as immediate credits on electricity bills. The proposed legislation aims to lower costs for residential users who are currently paying 50% above the national average for energy. Griffo is also pushing to repeal state mandates, such as the zero-emission school bus requirement, to reduce the financial burden on local districts.
