Carmella’s Cafe Celebrating their 40th Anniversary Ribbon Cutting

If you like the Riggies or are a fan of “pasta, steak, pasta” like I am, you’ll love Carmella’s Cafe in New Hartford, which is going strong by celebrating its 40th anniversary ribbon cutting this month. Carmellas hold a special place in our hearts, and we’re so happy to congratulate them on their important milestone.

Holland Farms Spreads the Love—New Manlius Location Opening.

If you’ve been down Oriskany Blvd., you know the giant cows are a staple of the West Utica community. Even with this change, they assure us, nothing will change. Holland Farms announced its expansion to Manlius and a new facility to make delivering delicious jelly rolls (and other sinful baked goods for us trying to lose weight) easier throughout the area.

UPD Gets Slight Victory Over Proctor Seniors in 3rd Annual Basketball Match.

For the past three years, UPD and Proctor seniors have competed in a friendly basketball game to help build stronger ties with the community. Even with UPD’s 67-61 win, it feels like everyone got the win, growing that local connection.

Local volunteer fire departments need help. On April 26 and 27, local fire departments host the RecruitNY open houses to boost volunteer numbers and protect the community. These open houses are across the state to help promote volunteer fire membership, developed by the Firefighters’ Association of the State of New York. This is your chance to make a difference in your community with a few financial benefits (non-income benefits) for volunteering in NY.

3 Ways to Tell Spring is Hopefully Around the Corner

Cooperstown

Cooperstown has several spring signals to help alleviate your cabin fever. From museum openings to food and wine and the big Memorial Day celebration at the Baseball Hall of Fame, we can almost smell the spring flowers.

The Fenimore Museum and Fenimore Farm and Country Village both open April 1st, allowing couples and families to expand their Cooperstown visit. The Fenimore Museum includes exhibits of regional and American artwork. Check out the event calendar for exciting events like their Food for Thought series.

The Fenimore Farm and Country Village is a working farmstead and 19th-century village with so much to do and see. Visit the barnyard animals or see one of the many exhibits from butter churning to blacksmithing. The events calendar highlights classes like broom making, plant sales, and herbal remedies weekends.

You’ll need a drink after a walk through the National Baseball Hall of Fame for Hank Aaron Day, or a warm spring hike at Glimerglass. Cooperstown offers a variety of great restaurants… Or, hear me out… Plenty of breweries. Brewery Ommegang, the Cooperstown Distillery, and Council Rock Brewery.

The Local Fishing Spots are Getting Busier

While there are year-round fishing seasons in NY, April 1st is the “official” beginning of the fishing season for trout lovers. You’ll find people from all walks of life along the creeks and lake shores in the 315 testing their luck at catching the “big one.” From Oneida Lake to the Fulton Chain and Oriskany Creek, each offers an amazing spot all spring.

Plenty of Fresh Locally Grown Produce and Other Items

Village greens, parks, and fire department parking lots will soon be filled with tables full of fresh produce, local honey, and grass-fed beef. Supporting local farms and businesses is the perfect way to spend a spring afternoon. Here’s a short list to help supply your next BBQ or lunch salad meal prep.
