What happened this week in the 315

🌳 Utica officials plant first tree in multi-year urban forest overhaul 🛝- Government

Thursday, the City of Utica and Olmstead City of Greater Utica planted the first of 2,000 trees planned to help with “urban reforestation” in Utica. Utica Mayor Michael Galime and other city officials planted the first tree at Kemble Park.

Utica received $2 million in federal grants, with Olmstead City, known for its work at Proctor Park, receiving $338,195. The multi-year initiative will help Utica with “growing a better future.”

⚕️Oneida Health Hospital becomes part of Upstate University Hospital's Telestroke Network. 🥼- General Good News

Oneida Health Hospital is now part of Upstate University’s Telestroke Comprehensive Stroke Center in Syracuse. The service offers medical professionals in Oneida access to consultations and the development of care plans for patients suffering a stroke emergency.

Time is a significant factor in stroke treatment and recovery. The Telestroke service will help medical professionals quickly collaborate with assessment, testing, and treatment options like IV “clot busters,” which is a front-line option for stroke treatment.

🧸 The New Utica Children's Museum Celebrates Its Re-Opening 🚸 - Local Business

The new Utica Children’s Museum opened for business last weekend at its new location on the Memorial Parkway in Utica. The $8 million project was part of the $14 million ICAN Family resource project. The 14,000 sq. ft. museum is designed to help children of all ages with school and career readiness.

The new children’s museum opens to a 4,000 sq. ft. rotunda. The newly renovated 10,000 sq. ft. second floor hosts 6 galleries with 60 custom exhibits for children to play, explore, and learn.

The children’s museum is over 60 years old and one of the oldest children’s museums in the country.

🍻 The Old School Bar and Grill in Utica Celebrates new owners with ribbon cutting 🎀- Local Business

The Old School Bar and Grill, at 600 Culver Ave., Utica, celebrated new ownership on Friday with their Utica Chamber ribbon cutting.

The Old School Bar and Grill is an exciting place to catch live music, sporting events, craft drinks, and serve delicious takes on classic bar food and Utica classics.

🏀 MVCC men's basketball and soccer teams honored by NYS Assembly ⚽ - Sports

Members from the MVCC Men’s Basketball and Soccer teams visited the NYS Assembly Chambers on April 30th to celebrate NYS Assembly Resolutions 389 and 39,0, celebrating both teams’ impressive seasons. Assemblymember Marianne Buttenschon sponsored both resolutions in light of MVCC’s championship seasons.

MVCC’s men’s basketball team won the 2024 NJCAA Division III National Title with an amazing 29-1 record. The men’s soccer team won the NJCAA Division III National Championship with their 14-2-3 record. Congrats to our alma mater.
